Otoplasty
Ears’ extending straighter out of the head than they should be, in other words ears’ being clearly seen when they are viewed from the front and the rear, is called ‘Bucket Ear’. The operation that is done in order to fix this case is called ‘Otoplasty’.
Evolution of ears among children is completed at the age 6-7. Nevertheless, since children‘s having bucket ear results into psychological problems especially in their period of school, I recommend that otoplasty should be carried out in these ages.
Otoplasty is generally an operation which lasts for 1-1,5 hours under local anesthesia. If the patient is not suitable for local anesthesia, general anesthesia is used. Pains that can be overcome via simple painkillers occur after the surgery.
In the surgeries done with the general anesthesia, I have the patients stay for 1 day at the hospital. Patients are discharged from the hospital on the same day of the surgery with local anesthesia. Patients can return to their daily lives in between 5-7 days after the surgery.
